Amanpreet Kaur Sehra, one of the 2023-2024 Interfaith Fellows, gave the keynote speech at the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents meeting on February 9, 2024. Sehra, a third year studying finance and real estate with a certificate in religious studies, was raised in the Milwaukee area in a Punjabi Sikh household.
In 2012, the Milwaukee Sikh community crashed into the national spotlight due to a mass shooting at the Oak Creek gurudwara, just a 10-minute drive from her house.
“I realized the only way to move forward was to find support in the Sikh community that I had, and to educate others about what it truly meant to be Sikh,” said Aman.
She started a nonprofit called SikhTeens, and become involved in interfaith education and advocacy. At UW-Madison, Aman is part of the Wisconsin School of Bhangra, the Sikh Student Association, the School of Business, and the Center for Interfaith Dialogue.
