My name is Faith Nyabuto and I am a junior studying global health. I was born and raised in Minnesota and my family is from Kenya. As a Seventh-day Adventist, I have grown up with certain beliefs and practices that shape my daily life and interactions. This includes observing the Sabbath from Friday evening through Saturday and adhering to dietary laws such as abstaining from pork because pigs are unclean, similar to my Muslim, Jewish, and some Christian friends. These commonalities, amidst our diverse religious landscapes, have not only provided a ground for mutual understanding but have also sparked my interest in the complexity of interfaith relations. I am applying to the Interfaith Fellows Program with a dual intent: to bring my perspective as a Seventh-day Adventist to the table and to enrich my understanding of how various religious beliefs contribute to a harmonious society. My experiences, such as witnessing the shared practices between Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and other traditions have shown me how interfaith knowledge can bridge gaps between seemingly different communities.
