Marie Meyer
Hello! My name is Marie Meyer, and I am a junior majoring in Global Health and Religious Studies. I also study Russian through the UW-Madison Russian Flagship Program. I was raised just outside Minneapolis, Minnesota, in a Lutheran household, which was very much tied to our family’s Norwegian roots and identity. Once I got to college, I started exploring my own faith more in depth, which led me to also be curious about other religions. I now attend Pres House, which is a Presbyterian church here on campus, and served on their board of directors last year. I also work at Saint Mary’s, a Catholic hospital, which has made me more aware of how big a role people’s faith plays in their journey with navigating illness. As someone who wants to pursue a career in healthcare, I recognize that interfaith dialogue and recognition of patient’s cultural backgrounds are key to providing high-quality care. I believe my participation in the Interfaith Fellows Program would allow me to become more skilled at communicating with people from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds and be better prepared to navigate the complexities of religious differences in my future career.
