Rokayah Hasan

Hello! My name is Rokayah Hasan, and I am a freshman at UW–Madison, majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology. I am a Muslim. I try my best to follow the teachings and values passed down by my family: compassion, humility, and the pursuit of knowledge.

I speak fluent Arabic, but I’m always looking to improve it by watching videos or reading books that deepen both my language skills and cultural understanding. One of my favorite quotes is by Shams Tabrizi, “All of us are selective sinners. We choose the sins we are comfortable with, and judge others that commit the ones we’re not comfortable with.” This quote resonates deeply with me because it reminds me of the importance of self-awareness and humility, lessons that align closely with the wisdom in Islam, which taught that a person’s worth lies not in judging others but in improving themselves. It encourages me to leave judgment to God and focus on embodying kindness, fairness, and sincerity in all I do.

As an interfaith fellow, I hope to further my understanding and respect among people of different beliefs. My goal is to create spaces of genuine dialogue, listen to one another with open hearts, and work together for the common good.
