Tegbir Chawla
Sat Sri Akal! My name is Tegbir Singh Chawla and I am a Junior studying Biology and Spanish on a pre-med track. I grew up in Menomonee Falls, WI and have been lucky enough to have a large Sikh community nearby. Sundays at the local Gurudwara and trips to my nani ji’s house were integral parts of my childhood that immersed me in the prayers, traditions, and history of Sikhism. These experiences helped cultivate my interest and pride in my religion. I have always been eager to share the symbolism of my turban, hair, and customs to my friends, teachers, or curious onlookers to help dispel any misconceptions. By definition, a Sikh is a “student,” open-minded and willing to learn. I believe that interfaith communication is the key to fostering a healthy dynamic between communities that may differ in beliefs or appearances. Therefore, I am excited to learn as an Interfaith Fellow in order to achieve a more profound insight of my own religion as well as the beliefs of my peers!
